A Caddo Parish grand jury on August 15 indicted Surcorey Odums, 25, on second-degree murder in a 2010 shooting that claimed the life of 41-year-old James Pouncy.

A Caddo Parish grand jury on August 15 indicted Surcorey Odums, 25, on second-degree murder in a 2010 shooting that claimed the life of 41-year-old James Pouncy.

On Feb. 11, 2010, Shreveport police were called to the intersection of Wallace Avenue and Fuller Street where they found a green SUV with Pouncy inside suffering from several gunshot wounds to the upper body. Pouncy was transported to a local hospital
where he was later pronounced dead. SPD detectives immediately began an investigation into the shooting, they were unable to gather sufficient evidence
to make an arrest at the time.

According to Cpl. Marcus Hines, public information officer for the Shreveport Police Department, new evidence recently uncovered in the three-year-old cold case pointed to Odums, prompting SPD detectives to interview Odums on June 25 at the Desoto Parish
jail, where he was incarcerated on unrelated charges.

Odums, who is now incarcerated at Caddo Correction Center, is scheduled to be in Caddo District Court on September 25 for a preliminary examination.
