The holiday season officially begins for the Salvation Army.
The holiday season officially begins for the Salvation Army.

On Friday, they announced the start to their Angel Tree and Red Kettles.

The ceremony was at Central Mall in Texarkana.

After a brief speech, some helpers began decorating the tree.

This year, more than 1200 kids in the area are asking for a brighter Christmas.

Almost 100 senior citizens are also looking for an angel this year.

"Sometimes they get overlooked because we always think about the kids," said Lieutenant Lacy Parrish. "They have a need though and many have come to us saying that they need help."

Items requested include toys, clothing, books, games, culinary equipment.
