An attempted home robbery in West Shreveport ends with the alleged teen suspect being killed.

Shreveport Police say just after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday night they were called to a home located in the 3,000  block of Morningside Drive.

Once there police found a 16-year-old burglary suspect collapsed a short distance away from the home.

Police say the 16-year-old, whose name has not been released, was trying to commit an armed robbery with a shotgun.

The suspect reportedly demanded at gunpoint that the 63-year-old homeowner produce valuables he thought were stored inside a safe at the home.

The homeowner opened the safe and gained access to a handgun she kept inside.

She fired shots in the direction of the suspect, who was struck once in the upper body.

The teen was taken to University Health Medical Center where he later died.

As police investigated the incident, authorities determined the teen previous burglarized the residence just weeks ago in mid-December.

No charges have been filed in connection with the incident and the case remains under investigation.
