How to dispose of your used cooking oil

Don't throw away that cooking oil left over from preparing your delicious Thanksgiving feast, it can be put to good use.
Don't throw away that cooking oil left over from preparing your delicious Thanksgiving feast, it can be put to good use.

This weekend the City of Shreveport is holding an event to collect used cooking oil.

The oil will be recycled by Vanguard Synfuels, LLC and converted into biodiesel fuel.

You can drop off the used cooking oil between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday, Nov. 30 at the city's Streets and Drainage office on 3825 Mansfield Rd.

You should bring your oil in a clean, non-breakable, leak-proof disposable container such as a milk jug, bucket or the container in which the oil was originally purchased.

Cooking oil should never be poured down the drain because it clogs sewer pipes which can result in overflows of sewage and can damage the environment.
