I-20 opens after tanker truck overturns

Interstate 20 is once again open to traffic after an 18-wheeler overturned Sunday evening, closing a large portion of the roadway.

Interstate 20 has reopened after an 18-wheeler overturned Sunday evening, causing portions of the roadway to be closed for hours.

The accident happened around 10:30 Sunday night.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation reports that as of 7:15 a.m. all lanes are open on I-20 West & East at Monkhouse Drive.

Crews worked all night to get the area cleaned-up for morning traffic.

The accident happened between Jewella Avenue and Monkhouse Drive.

Authorities tell NBC 6 News the 18-wheeler was headed eastbound, when the driver lost control and overturned onto the median.

The tanker was carrying bio-diesel fuel.

The driver is okay, and no other cars were involved in the accident.
