Jury selection began today in the trial of Rodricus Crawford,  accused of first degree murder
in the February 2012 death of his one-year-old baby, Rodrquous Lott.

Shreveport Fire Department emergency personnel were called to Crawford’s residence on Feb. 16, 2012, where they found the baby unconscious, unresponsive and bleeding from his nose and ears. They transported the baby to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy revealed the child was smothered; however, it also showed the infant had 13 bruises on his face and head, as well as other bruises on his abdomen, back and buttocks.

Crawford was charged with second-degree murder charges a week later, but a Caddo Parish Grand Jury upped the charge to first degree murder.

Caddo Assistant District Attorneys Dale Cox and Mkeisha Creal are prosecutors. Defense attorneys are Daryl Gold and Jay Florence.
