Students in New Boston, Texas practiced their first "Live Shooter" drill.

New Boston Police came and fired about 12 blank shots around campus.

Students were in classrooms listening.

The drill was meant to demonstrate what it'd sound like if an actual shooter came to campus.

School officials say you can never be too prepared.

"Safety is our upmost concern and some people may think that we may take it too far with going to extremes like this, to have a live shooter drill, but I don't think you can take it too far when you're trying to protect the lives of 400 students and 50 faculty members," said Assistant Principal Angela Hastings.

After the drill, students, faculty and staff came together in the school auditorium to discuss what happened.

Students could ask questions and give feedback.

School officials plan to meet with New Boston Police to see what they need to work on, and what they excelled at.

Officials say it was a great drill, and they hope to do it once a semester.

All students, faculty, and staff were notified that the drill would happen.

Parents also were sent notifications of the drill.
