A favorite Italian eatery goes up in flames Monday night.
The Shreveport Fire Department was called to the 1000 block of Olive Street around 10:20 p.m. for reports of a fire. When they arrived, they found the Olive Street Bistro engulfed in flames and intense smoke. Firefighters attempted to enter through a back stairwell, but were unsuccessful because the flames spread so quickly. It took 10 fire companies nearly two hours to get the fire under control.
The restaurant manager told fire officials that the business was closed Sunday and Monday, but that he had been there into the late evening preparing for an upcoming event.
The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation. Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents were called in to help with the investigation.
The building is considered a total loss. There were no reported injuries.
