October is recognized as Housing America Month.
And two Shreveport students are in the national spotlight for their art work depicting the theme "What Home Means to Me."
Nine year old Veyonce Lars from Sunset Acres Academy has been selected as the grand prize winner by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment.
She receives a $500 savings bond and will travel with her family to Washington D.C. for the legislative conference.
Joanna Colacion also receives a national honorable mention.
Contest winner Veyonce Lars says, "I was going against the whole nation trying to win. I had doubts that i would win, and when I come home from school and my mom said that I won the poster contest I was so happy and excited."
The goal for the program is to raise awareness of the need for safe, decent, and affordable housing.
All local Shreveport students who participated in the poster contest receive a $50 savings bond.
