SHREVEPORT, La. - Will Nelson had a banner night netting 41 points and pulling down 17 rebounds helping the LSU Shreveport Pilots past the Texas College Steers 106-89 on Monday night at The Dock in Red River Athletic Conference play.

Nelson was 10 of 12 from the charity stripe and 15 of 21 from the field but he wasn't alone as The Pilots Brandon Davis turned in his usual double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds on 10 of 19 shooting.

The crowd got quite a show and was rowdy early on when the scoring picked up when Joseph James tossed in a long three and it was soon followed by Nelson's rim-rocker and then Josh Walker added a three-pointer as the Pilots tied the contest at 19 with about 14 minutes to go in the half.

The Pilots gathered plenty and stashed away the rebounds pounding their opponent 53-30 on the boards. LSUS had a double-dozen on second chance points and Nelson contributed to the Pilots pouring in 50 points in the paint compared to the visitor's 34.

James and Tevin Hall also scored double figures, each adding 10 points while Walker finished with nine points.

The Steers were led by Cedrick Richardson with 23 points while Blake Turner tossed in 15 and Sebastian Opon had 14. Glenn Williams and Demarcus Bowie each had 10 points.

Both teams shot the ball decent with LSUS making 48-percent and Texas College 49-percent. The Steers made nine from behind the arc but probably because LSUS held a double-digit lead for the majority of the second half. The Pilots made six more from the charity stripe than the visitors.

The Pilots have now won five straight and are getting hot at just the right time with the RRAC schedule picking up as they play their next three on the road beginning with a pair of games this weekend in Oklahoma. On Friday night, the Pilots travel to Langston at 7:30 p.m. and then on Saturday night at Bacone.

LSUS remains tied with Wiley College in the RRAC regular season standings, both are 4-0 in RRAC play.
