A Shreveport man is behind bars after he allegedly left his three-year-old son alone in a hot car.

The incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot near Anna’s Linens at the Louisiana Boardwalk.

A Bossier City Police officer was patrolling the area when they noticed a car that was illegally parked in a handicapped spot with the driver’s side window rolled down.

When the officer approached the car they saw a small boy unresponsive in the back seat.

The officer removed the child from the car and attempted to revive him and after a few minutes the boy became responsive.

The boy’s father Joshua Jefferson, 26, who showed a short time later, told authorities that he left his son inside while he went to pick up his paycheck at a restaurant where he worked.

The toddler was released to the custody of a family member.

Jefferson was booked into the Bossier City Jail and charged with child desertion. He was also issued a handicapped parking ticket.
