Mavericks hold open tryouts

Shreveport-Bossier's first year professional basketball team evaluates talent
SHREVEPORT, La - 31 players put their skills on display for Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks President/Head Coach Steve Tucker.

The players were put through six hour tryout at the Boys & Girls Club near Independence Stadium, intended to recruit any potential players that could be added to the roster before practice starts in mid-October.

"We run a system that we think is very, very good," Tucker said. "It's based on team play in all phases of the game.

The tryout included a coaching session, followed by a refereed scrimmage. The Mavericks have already signed several players to their 2013-14 roster, but are looking for talent to fill out the remaining roster spots.

"Some of these guys may fit into that, some may not. but we just really appreciate the guys coming out and showing their stuff today."

The Mavericks will embark on their first year in the city of Shreveport. The organization is a member of the ABA professional basketball league. Their first game is slated for Saturday, Nov. 2nd at 7:30pm at Hirsch Coliseum.
