If you're looking for something educational yet fun to do this summer, you should contact the City of Shreveport.
The summer jobs program will give you the opportunity to work with Mayor Cedric Glover and other city officials at Government Plaza.
The program will employ more than 200 youths and young adults between the ages of 16-21. You will get experience working at a variety of public and private organizations and perform tasks ranging from clerical aides, recreation aides, accounting clerks to library aides, tutors and maintenance assistants.
Mayor Glover said, "In order to prepare our young men and women for future leadership roles, we have to push them to raise their expectations and expose them to practical, professional environments. This program does that and more."
Applications for the summer jobs program will be available through Community Development and SPAR recreation centers starting Thursday. The deadline for completed applications is May 10.
You can find detailed information on the summer jobs program by visiting www.shreveportla.gov.or you can call Janice Evans in the Department of Community Development at (318) 673-7567.
