Today Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover released a statement on Mandela's passing:

"Nelson Mandela created a morality in South Africa that not only crossed racial lines but swept across continents and influenced the lives of millions of people who never had the opportunity to meet him, but invariably felt like he was their leader, too," Mayor Cedric Glover said. "The influence he had on this world cannot fully be quantified but his towering presence will never be forgotten.'"

Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, released the following statement mourning the passing of Nelson Mandela:

"A bright light in the world has gone out. But millions of candles of courage and hope have been lit by his remarkable life that will continue to burn bright for generations to come."
