The Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department and the Texarkana, Arkansas School District begins a mentor movement.

On Wednesday, a luncheon was held to share the program's details.

The program pairs mentors with 5th and 6th graders at College Hill Middle School.

School officials say this program will help children succeed.

"It increases the High School graduation rate," said counselor Tanda Jolley. "I know that sounds silly talking about High School graduation when you're talking about 5th and 6th grade students, but studies show that by that if a child's going to be successful, we got to make sure they stay on target."

Mentors are asked to visit the students at least four times a month.
