Miles to go

After undergoing surgery weeks before the 2013 season, North Webster's All-State defensive back Jekyren Miles plans to suit up for the first time this season during the quarterfinals of the Louisiana Class 3A state playoffs

SPRINGHILL, La - His skill is inarguable. His heart is undeniable.

North Webster’s All-State defensive back Jekyren Miles will suit up for the first time in 2013 after undergoing posterior lateral corner repair in August. The procedure was done to repair two tendons that ripped in
his left knee during football practice.

“It’s just remarkable,” Jeb Willard, Jekyren’s Physical Therapist, said. “Just the fact that he’s even suiting up and running onto the field is the miracle. Doesn’t matter if he plays or not.”

His speedy recovery, which spanned little more than three months, is a miracle, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the community. Jeb Willard, owner of a local physical therapy office in Springhill, LA offered his physical therapy services to Jekyren free of charge after learning that his Medicaid status would not pay for therapy.

“What Jeb is doing for my son is such a blessing,” Jacqueta Miles, Jekyren’s mother, said. “It’s here in my hometown, my family’s here, and the fact that I have to travel to Houston and back to work, it’s helped out

Jekyren is quick to deflect credit for his recovery. Instead, he praises his family and friends.

“Everywhere I go (people say), we are here supporting you. Whatever you do, we are with you. It just built my confidence up.”

He’s confidently squatting 225 lbs in the weight room and covering receivers at full speed.  Miles will be a much welcome addition to
an 8-3 Knights squad that sits two-wins away from an appearance in the state championship game.
North Webster
will travel to face No. 10 seed Amite on Friday, Nov. 29th in Amite, LA. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
