The Natchitoches Fire Department has a new leader.

On Wednesday Mayor Lee Posey appointed Crit Miller as permanent fire chief for the City of Natchitoches.

Miller was selected among a group of six Natchitoches fire fighters who took the Civil Service Fire Chief Exam administered in August and there was a 100% pass rate for all who took the exam.

Miller, a lifelong resident of Natchitoches, began his career with the Natchitoches Fire Department on April 1, 1985.  He also served as Assistant Chief in 2007 and interim Fire Chief upon Chief Dennie Boyt's retirement back in April.

Miller said, "I'm committed to the community, and I want to see this community thrive.  I want to maintain the level of service the citizens of our community are accustomed to."

Miller will be sworn in as Fire Chief at the Nov. 12 meeting of the City Council upon approval of a resolution confirming Mayor Posey's appointment by the Council.
