In New Boston, Texas, summer ends in tragedy.

Last night, High School senior, Semaj Williams was fatally shot.

It happened at the Fawcett Car Wash on South Front Street.

"It's tough, but we're going to get through it," said New Boston ISD Superintendent Gary VanDeaver.

The news was heartbreaking.

"I received a call around 10pm from the High School Principal informing me we had an accident take place in town," VanDeaver said.

Witnesses say tragedy struck while several teens were detailing a vehicle at a downtown car wash.

"Found out that one young man had found the gun in a vehicle, apparently played with it and it fired and killed another student," said VanDeaver.

Those who saw the incident say multiple shots were fired.

At least one bullet struck Semaj Williams.

By the time police arrived, he had died.

No word on who the other individuals were, but VanDeaver confirms one of them was Aaron Conkleton, the High School's starting Quarterback.

"We feel so responsible for every student who walks through our door," VanDeaver said. "We want to protect them from these kind of things."

Friends and classmates of Williams spent much of Thursday on campus or at the football field looking for any kind of comfort.

The school says they're doing what they can to help.

"The health and well being of our students is our primary concern," VanDeaver said.

On campus, counselors will be available for anyone who needs them.

"It's a process, we recognize that, we want to be there as support," VanDeaver said. "We'll lean on each other and everything's going to be okay."

Police haven't confirmed or released any details in the investigation, leaving students and an entire community with questions.

One things for sure, Williams will be missed, but never forgotten.

A candlelight vigil will be held for Williams.

It starts at 8pm on the New Boston High School Football Field.
