No charges filed against mother in toddler heat death

The Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office has concluded that criminal charges will not be filed against Krystle Delafosse.

The Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office has concluded that criminal charges will not be filed against Krystle Delafosse.

On July 5, Sariah Delafosse, 3, was discovered inside the backseat of her mother's car back in the 3000 block of DeSoto Street in Shreveport.

Krystle told police she picked up Sariah from her father's house and believes Sariah fell asleep on the way home.  Krystle said Sariah would usually sing or kick the back of her seat while riding but on this occasion she did not do either.

When Krystle arrived home, she got out of the vehicle and went into the house.

Krystle did not go back outside until the following evening when it was time for her to go to work, and that's when she found Sariah unresponsive in the backseat.  The thermometer in the vehicle read 113 degrees.

The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office later determined that Sariah died of heatstroke secondary to vehicular hyperthermia. Her death was ruled an accident
