The baby expected to grow up to become king of England has been christened at St. James's Palace.

Only close relatives and friends of Prince William and Duchess Kate were invited to the ceremony.

Prince George, who wore a long, lacy christening gown also worn by his father at his own baptism, was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

Pippa Middleton and Prince Harry also gave readings during the christening.

Prince George has been assigned seven godparents one of whom is Olympic equestrian Zara Tindall, one of Prince William's cousins.

The couple also chose close friends from their college days, as well as a close friend of Princess Diana.
