Problems detected in local water system

If you live in Shreveport you may notice a chlorine smell in your water.
If you live in Shreveport you may notice a chlorine smell in your water.

City officials say there are addressing some operational issues with its ammonia feed system at the Amiss Water Treatment Plant.

As a result, they are feeding free chlorine, instead of chloramines, as the disinfectant in their water treatment process.

This change in the treatment process is expected to last several days until technicians can repair the ammonia system.

City officials say the water is still safe to drink.  If you have a concern you can contact the Department of Water and Sewerage at (318) 673-7660.
