Red River District: Holiday concerts, new restaurants

The district is getting new restaurants

You can add the Red River District to the list of places around Shreveport receiving a major facelift.

From concerts under the bridge, to a new burger joint, the city hopes to bring the district back to life.

On Friday, the city started its “Holiday under the Bridge” bringing Christmas entertainment to the Red River District. On Saturday, there will be holiday Karaoke, vendors, and arts and crafts for the kids. The celebration continues Dec. 20 and 21.

It’s a busy time in the district. For the first time in nearly a decade, new tenants are signing up to lease the vacant buildings. The CoHabitat Foundation moved CoHab to the district in September. It has office space for local entrepreneurs, and a catering kitchen. The gourmet burger bar “Fully Stacked” is set to open around New Years, and plans are underway for Kix Brooks to open a steakhouse in the district.

The city took ownership of the buildings in 2012 and Lea Hall Properties has been managing them.

Starting in 2014, there will be free concerts in the district every Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. You can click here to help them decide who should perform.
