U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu announced Thursday that almost $7 million is now available to expand existing health centers to new sites or create entirely new programs for communities to access primary and preventive health care.

The funds will go to 12 Louisiana entities and will help more than 60,000 additional people throughout the state.

The David Raines Community Health Center in Shreveport will get over $758,000 that is available through the Affordable Care Act.

Sen. Landrieu said, "By supporting new centers, even more Louisianians will be able to access primary and preventive care, which not only keeps people healthy, but helps control costs by reducing reliance on expensive emergency room care."
