According to a new study by the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the state of Louisiana saw significant job creation from August 2012-August 2013.
However, Shreveport-Bossier saw a drastic drop, losing 2,300 jobs.
The majority of the loss came from the manufacturing sector.
The GM plant closure meant a job loss for 764 employees and their suppliers between 320-370.
Oak Farms Dairy lost 178, Kongsberg Automotive 80, and Libby Glass 70.
However, because of the area's diversity it's possible to bounce back with the addition of other entities like Margaritaville and Bentler Steel. Both promising not only opportunities with the company, but construction jobs.
"This area is extremely resilient. We still have a strong medical community, Barksdale, oil and gas, plus other manufacturing is still pressing on," LA Workforce Commission's Jacques Lasseigne said.
