Family and friends say final goodbye to SSgt. Richard Vazquez

SSgt. Richard Vazquez is remembered as an ArkLaTex hero.
Fallen hero SSgt. Richard Vazquez was laid to rest today.

SSgt. Vazquez died on November 13th, from an I.E.D. blast, during an attack.

Today was especially somber for family and friends, as they came together at Southside Baptist Church in Mansfield, LA, for Vazquez's funeral services.

The Army staff sergeant received the purple heart and global war on terrorism service medal.

State Representative Kenny R. Cox says as a former lietenant colonel, it's never easy to say a final goodbye to a soldier.

"He served in one of the special units that do what no others will do,” says Rep. Cox. “And my hats off to Sgt. Vazquez and to his family. May God bless them, as they defend the greatest nation of the world."

Friends say the service was bittersweet, but beautiful.

When we spoke to Vazquez's sister last week, she said all servicemen need to be honored and remembered, because they're doing their best for all of us.
