State gives 40 Caddo schools failing grade

40 schools received a D or an F from the Louisiana Department of Education.

40 Caddo schools received a D or an F from the Louisiana Department of Education. Once again nine schools received an A. For a second year in a row four schools earned a B.

The number of C rated schools increased to 13. This year there are more D rated schools, that number went up to 21. 19 schools received an F compared to 22 last year.

Caddo Parish Public Schools released the following news release:

Caddo Parish Public Schools is pleased to announce that while the district performance letter grade remained a C the district grew 1.6 points.  Responding to the data, Caddo Interim Superintendent Dr. Mary Nash Robinson said, "I'm ecstatic about the results.  It is a testament to the hard work the school and district level staff have put in and the support shown by parents and community stakeholders.  We will continue to focus our efforts on all schools as we meet and exceed the state's new standards."

A breakdown of school performance scores show:

77% of Caddo schools showed growth in their school performance score.

15 schools received the designation of Top Gains Schools.  The schools are: Atkins Technology Elementary, Barret Paideia Academy, Broadmoor Middle Lab, Caddo Heights Math/Science Elementary, Cherokee Park Elementary, Creswell Elementary, Donnie Bickham Middle, Fairfield Elementary, Keithville Elementary/Middle, Mooringsport Elementary, North Highlands Elementary, Ridgewood Middle, E.B. Williams Stoner Hill Elementary, Summer Grove Elementary, and Vivian Elementary/Middle.  To be designated a Top Gains School "A" schools had to earn 5 bonus points for student achievement or grow 5 points.  "B-F" schools had to earn 10 bonus points for student achievement or grow 10 points.

9 of the 11 high schools experienced growth with their school performance score.  Four (4) of the high schools made double digit gains.  They are: C.E. Byrd, Green Oaks Performing Arts, Northwood and Southwood. 

10 Caddo Parish schools came out of Academic Unacceptable Status.  They are Booker T. Washington New Technology High School, Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy, Sunset Acres Elementary, Huntington High School, Turner Elementary/6th Grade Academy, Cherokee Park Elementary, Caddo Heights Math/Science Elementary, Creswell Elementary, E.B. Williams Stoner Hill Elementary and Barret Paideia Academy.
