The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department recently received a selective traffic enforcement grant in the amount of $105,000 for DWI, Seatbelt, speed and distracted driver traffic enforcement.
This is a federal grant in the amount of $52,500 with $52,000 in local “in kind” matching funds. Beginning with a pilot project in 1991, this is one of the TAPD’s longest-running grants. The funding comes from the National Highway Traffic Administration (NTSHA) through the Arkansas Highway Traffic Administration administered by the Arkansas State Police Alcohol Safety Program.
During the 2013 selective traffic safety enforcement grant cycle, 203 DWI/DUI arrests were made by TAPD officers working under the grant.
