Some Veterans in Texarkana, got a special treat from a local school.

North Heights Junior High held their first-ever Veteran Appreciation Breakfast.

The event kicked-off with a performance by the school's choir.

Different military songs were sung to salute those who've given the ultimate sacrifice.

After, the breakfast was held.

Students were able to eat and speak with Veterans.

Officials say it's a great way for students to learn about this important holiday.

"It's important for them to understand that this goes way, way back, but it's still continuing right now and it affects all of our families, past, present and future," said Band Director Kim Madlock.

"I think it's important they know the history behind it and exactly what people are doing for them individually whether they know them or not," said Emily Huckabey, Choir Director.

Veterans and community members were invited for Monday's event.

Admission was free.

School officials say they'll do the event again next year.
