Texarkana Arkansas dog park opens

Just a little over 16 months after receiving the winning $100,000 check in PetSafe’s “Bark for Your Park” national contest, the Texarkana Arkansas dog park opened this afternoon.

Just  a little over 16 months after receiving the winning $100,000 check in PetSafe’s “Bark for Your Park” national contest, the Texarkana Arkansas dog park opened this afternoon.

The “soft opening” of the dog park was met with lots of wagging tails romping in the sunshine and fair weather.

When Texarkana, Arkansas was announced as winner of the 2012 competition, Mayor Wayne Smith said, "What began with a handful of passionate citizens has grown into a community project of love for our animals, and it has united both sides of our town."

“Our community is overjoyed and grateful to everyone who helped us win the $100,000 grand prize so that Texarkana citizens – human and canine – can enjoy a safe place to play, exercise and socialize."

Just a year later, Texarkana, Texas, won the same contest, with the help of Texarkana, Arkansas, so eventually, there will be a dog park on both sides of the State Line that separates the Texas and Arkansas sides of Texarkana.
