Texarkana celebrates America Recycle Day

Texarkana USA prepares to break records.
Texarkana USA prepares to break records, all while teaching local youth about recycling.

For the first time, schools on both sides of the line will participate in America Recycles Day.

It's a national event meant to keep the United States beautiful.

On November 15th, students will head to the Four States Fairgrounds to learn about the environment.

But the city is making it a competition.

They're using the event to break the Guinness book of World Records for most worn and recycled paper hats.

"When we first started planning we thought we only needed 1500 (students)," said Recycling Coordinator Brandy Chewning. "But because nothing ever goes as planned, our record was broken two weeks ago. We're now trying to have 2,000 students from 3rd, 4th and 5th grades across Texarkana."

School districts from both sides of the line will participate.

That includes: Pleasant Grove, Liberty Eylau, Texas and Arkansas.
