"We're better"

Texas and Louisiana football collides at Independence Stadium during the Battle on the Border showcase
SHREVEPORT, La - Ten teams from Texas and Louisiana will meet over the course of two days during the Battle on the Border High School football showcase at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.

"Some great programs coming in to play," Mike Suggs, Byrd High school head coach, said. "There's going to be some great athletes playing this weekend."

Festivities kick off Friday, Sept. 13th with an all-Lousiana lineup. St. Thomas More meets Calvary at 6pm followed by Bastrop vs C.E. Byrd at 8:30pm.

"It's exciting. It's always exciting to go the I-bowl," Tyler Howard, Byrd high school quarterback, said. "I'd like to think we (Louisiana) takes pride in being one of the top tier football programs in the nation."

Saturday will feature a tripleheader of high school football, beginning with Acadiana vs Neville at 2pm.

The Lone Star state makes its first appearance at 5pm Saturday, when Marshall meets Parkway in a Louisiana vs Texas matchup.

"We're going to have our hands full Saturday afternoon trying to contain that offense," said Marshall's head coach Clint Harper. "But this is by far one of the best events that I've been a part of."

Saturday's events conclude with an all-Texas affair: Olive Branch will face Longview at 7:30pm.
