What Went Wrong?

Executives for contractors who built Healthcare.gov, and many say made a mess of it, testified to House lawmakers that the site is working ok now

"And that we anticipate people will be able to enroll in the timeframe allotted," said CGI Federal Senior Vice President Cheryl Campbell.

Especially with the deadline now said to be March.

So why has the site been so hard to use?

Contractors blame a last minute government mandate to make registration step one which overwhelmed that section of the site on day one.

A democrat called that excuse lame.

Amazon and eBay don't crash the week before Christmas. And ProFlowers doesn't crash on Valentine's day!" said Congresswoman Anna Eshoo of California.

Obama administration officials had promised no problems said republicans.

"Are they simply incompetent or were they just lying to the American people?" asked Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Pitts.

Contractors testified that no one knew the site would fail.

And amazingly the government staged no run throughs.

"When was the integrated system tested?" asked republican Congressman John Shinkus of Illinois.

"We didn't see the full kind of integrated end to end system testing that you're talking about until a few days before the launch." Optum/QSSI Group Executive Vice President Andrew Slavitt said.

One contractor said he warned of problems with Healthcare.gov but another said it's not the job of contractors to tell the government whether go live or delay.

The White House said their oObamacare focus is to look forward.

"Tackling these problems and improving the website every day" White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

But one expert says a full website fix will be difficult

"I don't think they have even begun to get their hands around this thing i look for even more delays before this is done" said health policy strategist Robert Laszewski.

And more Obamacare politics.
