Heather Wright is an award-winning journalist based in Texarkana, Texas. She has won television awards for investigative, feature and spot news, along with awards in radio for best features and use of sound.
Heather is a graduate of the University of Alabama where her journey into journalism began. While attending classes, her on-the-job training began at the television station in Tuscaloosa. On the weekends, she hosted a Sunday morning gospel radio show. Heather also anchored the noon newscast for Alabama Public Radio. After graduation, Heather worked as an associate producer at Fox 6 News in Birmingham.
Soon after, Heather moved to northeast Louisiana, where she covered politics and anchored the morning show at KNOE-TV8. Heather was then offered a place at the evening anchor desk at KTVE NBC 10, where she stayed for 8 years. While there, Heather hosted the Ark-La-Miss’s annual telethon to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. The campaign broke records for fundraising. In 2014, Heather was appointed by the governor to serve on the Louisiana Animal Welfare Commission.
Heather moved to Texarkana in 2017. A short time later, the station launched Texarkana First News from the KTAL NBC 6 studios in Texarkana, with Heather as anchor. Texarkana First News is the region’s only newscast dedicated to the Four States area. It was first launched by KTAL NBC 6 in Shreveport in 2016. Texarkana First News airs each weekday at 5:30 p.m. on KSHV.
Heather and her husband, Bradley, are members at Highland Park Baptist Church. They enjoy riding motorcycles, cooking and spending time with their rescued Labrador retriever.
