Jade Jackson

Jade Jackson joined the KTAL NBC 6 team as a News Reporter/Multimedia Journalist in December 2019.

Jade comes to the Arklatex from the Midwest. Born and raised in Indianapolis, In., her journey in news started at age nine when she was chosen as the only fourth grader in elementary school to give the broadcasted morning announcements. At the time only sixth graders were allowed to do it, but her reading and writing skills were advanced for her age, according to teachers.

She then attended Ben Davis High School and joined their newspaper, Spotlight, as a teen reporter that earned her the nickname “Lil Scoop.” She was also the entertainment segments for their award-winning broadcast news show BDTV.

Jade graduated from the University of North Texas in May 2020 majoring in public relations with a minor in social sciences. She’s completed over seven internships, including being a summer news reporting intern for WFAA in Dallas and CBS 11 in Fort Worth. She anchored DTV News Break for the City of Denton, was a producer for Denton Radio and contributed to The Dentonite, an online publication.

On campus she was a reporter and anchor for the Emmy award-winning NTTV Nightly News, where she broke national stories. One of those stories involved an African American student who received a receipt from an on campus restaurant with a racial slur on it. After the student posted the photo of her receipt online, Jackson interviewed restaurant staff on video explaining what happened. The clip sent a ripple effect throughout the campus, causing deeper discussions about race sparking more stories of international students coming forward with how they were treated by staff.

Jade was also a minority beat writer for the UNT chapter of Her Campus Magazine and contributed to her school’s NTDaily print publication.

She’s a member of multiple news organizations: The National Association of Black Journalists, The Ida B. Wells Society, Online News Association, Investigative Reporters and Editors, and The Society of Professional Journalists.

Outside of the newsroom Jackson is a socialite who enjoys attending events and festivals if she’s not covering them. She also enjoys volunteering her time with children and investing in their educational development.

Jade prides herself on telling stories creatively through video, social media and writing. She believes in “credible and compelling storytelling” that will be remembered long after she’s gone. When she’s not telling stories, volunteering or enjoying the ArkLaTex, she enjoys eating and sleeping.
