Award-winning journalist Marquel Sennet joined the KMSS News team in February 2015. Before moving to Shreveport, Marquel was the weekend anchor at the Fox affiliate in her hometown of Beaumont, Texas.
At these stations, Marquel covered the Deep Water Horizon Oil Spill for television stations in our region and provided live coverage statewide for the 2015 Louisiana Gubernatorial Primary Election.
She has interviewed President George H.W. Bush, while reporting on the recovery along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Ike. Some of her most memorable interviews were with NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal and Academy Award nominee Spike Lee.
Marquel first realized her passion for news while in her high school’s video broadcasting class. Upon graduation she was awarded a full academic scholarship to Jarvis Christian College.
She was initiated into the Zeta Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in 2005 and was selected to participate in the sorority’s prestigious Leadership Fellows Program in 2007.
She graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism with minors in history and political science.
In 2015 she received her Master’s Degree in History at Grambling State University. Marquel is currently an Assistant Professor of History at Southern University Shreveport.
Marquel is a member of Shreveport’s Sigma Rho Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and a lifelong member of Beaumont’s Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church.
