SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The first parade of 2020, Krewe of Sobek, kicked off 1 p.m. Saturday at the State Fairgrounds. They’re celebrating 17 years of the popular events.
The theme this year was Harlem Nights and there were over 50 participants in the parade this year. The parade is dedicated to bringing the time-honored traditions of Mardi Gras to the inner city near Queensborough.
Sobek is an ancient Egyptian God and the word means “protection” and “strength,” which is significant to the founders. As a non-profit, their main goal is to support local organizations that provide a helpful hand to those in need in the community.
