Valuable lessons learned from first two Red River Balloon Rallies

Round three for Shreveport-Bossier as the U.S. Hot Air Balloon Championships and Red River Balloon Rally flies our way yet again.

And, after two years in a row hosting both events, folks at the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission have learned a lot.

“We’re having so many things available this year that have not ever been available at the balloon rally” said Ronald Oswalt with Strategic Partnerships & Sponsors Director.

That’s thanks to the help of hundreds of local partners more than ever seen in previous years.

Two years of insight has also led to pushing the weekend rally a bit later in the evening… in an effort to beat the heat.

“Once the sun starts going down, it really just becomes beautiful and I’d put the weather up against any other festival throughout the year” said Kelly Wells with Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission.

And because of long wait times in the past, you’ll now find several more entrances and exits… plus a couple more shuttle options if you plan to park off-site and avoid the crowds.

Thousands have hit the rally in the last two years… prompting a push to bring in even more family friendly attractions… including an expanded kids zone.

“We’re gonna have two book mobiles there and characters and they can check out books, get a library card from the Shreve-Memorial Library so we’re really excited to enhance more things for the kids” said Oswalt.

Inspired by the past, to continue expanding in the future.

“It’s just been incredible again. Each year we’ve grown, just bringing in July a world class festival and event, which we’ve done” said Wells.
