Authorities on both sides of the Louisiana-Texas line have now identified the bodies found Thursday at two separate locations in a case that started with a standoff Wednesday night in Keithville and ended with a man found dead in Harrison County and the suspect being found dead inside a house in Shreveport.

Late Friday afternoon, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office identified the man found dead Thursday inside his home on Boggy Rd. near Waskom. He is believed to have been killed by 56-year-old James Arthur Salone, who was also identified Friday as the man whose body was found Thursday afternoon in a Cedar Grove house that officers had surrounded for more than three hours.

Police had been searching for Salone after he escaped during a standoff in Keithville late Wednesday night, after breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and taking her and her two teen children hostage. Police say Salone shot her boyfriend in the buttocks and also at deputies, the ex-girlfriend, and her children after they managed to escape.

Dozens of Caddo Parish Deputies and SWAT Team members converged on the Cedar Grove neighborhood Thursday in response to a tip that Salone was in the area. Three hours after surrounding the house and attempting to make contact, it was determined that there was a body inside

Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator said Thursday afternoon that they believed the body was Salone’s, and that it appeared he took his own life.

According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Salone was identified through fingerprint comparison. It has been determined that he died from a gunshot wound.

Kenneth Smith’s car was found in Columbia Park in Shreveport’s Highland neighborhood Thursday morning. Officers in Harrison County found his body while conducting a welfare check requested by Caddo investigators, who had information from Salone’s ex-girlfriend that Smith may have been killed. Police said it appeared that Smith appeared to have been shot.  His body was taken to Tyler for an autopsy.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office on the case.
