SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Violent crimes detectives are commending the patrol officers who pulled a man off of an elderly woman Sunday afternoon as he slashed at her with a butcher knife, likely saving her life.
Police say the 88-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times in the attack at a home on Abilene Street. Officers responding to reports of an armed person arrived to find the attack still in progress.
SPD says the responding officers took action immediately and following an intense struggle, were able to disarm the man take him into custody.
The woman was taken to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital with serious injuries, including to her face and head.
Detectives said Sunday that the woman’s godson had been arrested in connection with the stabbing.
On Monday, the police department identified the man as 64-year-old Ivory Hamilton. He was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of attempted second-degree murder.
