SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Caddo Parish’s fleet of school buses were heavily vandalized over the holiday weekend.
Shreveport Police are investigating after more than a dozen school buses were vandalized by so far unknown suspects.
Piles of broken glass litter across the parking lot of Captain Shreve’s Lee Hedges Stadium where the Caddo Parish School District keeps their buses for summer maintenance.
But now 20 of those buses were damaged by vandalism, with busted out doors in the front and glass shattered windows in the back. Along with cracked windshields on several of the buses. School district officials said nothing was stolen from inside the buses.
“We have begun the process of repairing that glass and taking inventory to try and access the damage and take next steps to repair it. We are looking at some of our buses that have been out of commission, taking the glass from those and use that as much as we can to address this,” said Mary Nash-Wood, Caddo Parish Schools spokesperson.
Wood said someone walking by on Monday noticed the damaged and called the Caddo Parish Administrative Office. Wood said they do not have security cameras in that area so they’re hoping nearby businesses on East 70th Street and Youree Drive may have caught something on camera.
“We are leaning on businesses in the area if they do have any footage to please review it and be able to tell us if they have any video to tell us what took place,” Wood said.
The district is still getting estimates on the total costs of damage. But Wood said this is all paid for by tax payers so it’s like damaging your own belongings.
“Hope to be able to have some justice served. We hope to have someone come forward and have some video or information that can lead us to who was able to do this,” Wood said.
Anyone with information on who may have done this is encourage to call Crime-Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
