UPDATE: Deputies actively working to solve double murder


UPDATE: Deputies in Natchitoches Parish say they continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews to try and solve a double murder. 

Cordarious Cortez Smith Rodney D. Richards were found fatally shot earlier this month.

UPDATE: Two people who were fatally shot overnight in Natchitoches Parish have been identified.

The bodies of 24-year-old Cordarious Cortez Smith and his passenger 24-year-old Rodney D. Richards, both of Natchitoches were discovered inside a vehicle shortly after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The shooting happened in the 200 block of Michelle Dr. in the Payne Sub-Division off of La. Hwy 6 East in the Grand Ecore area of Natchitoches.

When deputies arrived they found a 2000 Nissan passenger car in the ditch that struck a tree.

A short while later they discovered Smith and Richards, who had been shot multiple times, inside the vehicle.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr.said detectives are diligently continuing the investigation, interviewing residents in the area and speaking to possible witnesses.

The suspects ran from the area shortly after the shooting.

An investigation is underway after two people were fatally shot in Natchitoches Parish.

The shooting happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Michelle Dr. off of Hwy 6.

According to Captain Tony Moran with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office when deputies arrived at the scene they discovered a vehicle in the ditch and the two people inside were suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The two people died at the scene and their identities will not be released until next of kin is notified.
