First day back to class for DeSoto Parish schools


DeSoto Parish students got a hero’s welcome on their first day back to school Monday morning. 

At Mansfield Elementary, teachers and administrators cheered on kids and their parents as they walked into the school.

DeSoto Parish school officials say they have a heightened awareness on safety for the 2018-2019 school year.

North DeSoto and Mansfield Middle-Elementary will be staffed with school resource officers. 

Mansfield High School Principal, Toras Hill says that students will also have to get used to new backpacks as well.

“New this year district-wide we are requiring all students to bring either clear or mesh backpacks back to the school each day. Here at the school {Mansfield High School} four our advanced study classes we are beefing that up to make sure we are preparing our students,” said Hill.

For moms and dads, it’s all welcome news to kick off the first day.

Red River Parish students head back to school Tuesday, August 7th.

Bossier Parish students return to the classroom Wednesday, August 8th. 

Caddo, Webster and Natchitoches Parish schools begin their first day, Monday, August 13th.
