BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Gov. John Bel Edwards is promoting President Donald Trump’s visit to southwest Louisiana with a new regional TV ad that calls the visit a sign the state’s economy is thriving.
The Republican president is traveling Tuesday to Cameron Parish to promote the region’s booming energy industry.
Edwards’ campaign is running a 30-second TV spot throughout the day in the Lake Charles media market. In the ad, the Democratic governor says Trump’s trip is “confirmation that we are moving in the right direction” under Edwards’ leadership.
One of Edwards’ two GOP challengers, U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham, is responding to Trump’s visit with a billboard along the president’s travel route welcoming him to Louisiana.
Trump and Edwards have had a cordial relationship, and the president hasn’t waded into the Louisiana governor’s race.
