Shreveport Police say they are still looking for the person or persons responsible for the shooting death of Officer Chatéri Payne.
Officer Payne was shot and killed on January 9 as she was heading into work to begin her shift.
The shooting happened outside a home on Midway Avenue.
Police say they’re aware of what’s been said and shared on social media about the murder. Despite this, they still have to find probable cause to issue any arrest warrants.
“It is against the law for us to speculate. We’re bound by a different set of standards versus a citizen who can recklessly throw out allegations. We can’t do that. We hear what the people are saying, we hear what the streets are saying. All of these allegations but we simply can not operate in those parameters. We have to operate within the parameters of the law” said Cpl. Marcus Hines.
The funeral for Officer Payne is set for Saturday at Summer Grove Baptist Church.
