Liberty Eylau 23 in 23

At a school like Liberty Eylau expectations are always high. In two of the last three years the Leopards have advanced to the state quarterfinals.

Steve Wells: This is a really good school. We’ve put out a lot of good players throughout the years. Each year I tell our seniors, how well you lead, how well you lead with your examples as far as working through the offseason and summer is going to determine your season.

We’ll find out right out of the gate where they stand. The Leopards open the season with a brutal schedule, with the 4A Division-2 number one ranked Gilmer and then defending 4A Division-1 state champion Carthage.

Steve Wells: We feel like our program is at the level that we can compete with those guys and we’re excited to get the opportunity to go play.

Last year the Leopards didn’t have the kind of season they’ve been accustomed to, so they took to the offseason with a little chip on their shoulder.

Steve Wells: I think our kids are fired up and ready to go deep again. We got beat in the first round last year. The two years before we went four rounds deep to the quarterfinals and I think our kids want to get back there.

Coach Wells said he thinks they had a really good offseason, we’ll find out if that translates to wins on the field come week two.
