A 13-year-old girl reportedly gave birth Sunday morning and dropped the baby off at a neighbor’s door.
According to Baker Police Chief Carl Dunn, the girl and her parents said they were unaware she was pregnant. Authorities said she delivered the baby alone in her room and cleaned the infant before dropping it off.
The baby was later taken to a local hospital. At this time, there is no word on the child’s condition.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) recently launched an online mapping tool to help the public locate facilities where they can voluntarily drop off newborns they are unable to care for.
