An 18-wheeler was struck by a Union Pacific while it tried to cross the railroad tracks in Bossier Parish.

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on Hwy 3 near the former Hat Creek Dirt Pit.

Deputy Bryan Sprankle with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office said the 18-wheeler, which was carrying Frac sand, was attempting to cross the tracks when it was hit by the train.

The conductor blew the horn several times but the truck failed to stop.

Sprankle added that the crossing at Cash Point is closed but the crossing at Maplewood Crossing is open.

All drivers are urged to slow down as they approach the crash as crews work on clearing the scene.

Both drivers were shaken up but no one was injured including the dog that was riding in the sleeper in the 18-wheeler.

Louisiana State Police are investigating the accident.
