Freezing temperatures expected across much of the Arklatex Friday night. All of the area will likely freeze next week. More rain returns late Sunday.
830pm Friday Live Update:
Friday was a mainly dry, windy and cool day around the Arklatex. A few areas of light rain ended Friday morning giving way to some afternoon sunshine. Despite this sunshine, temperatures stayed below normal with highs in the mid to upper 50s. Don’t expect a warm up anytime soon as we’ll see a few more surges of cold air in the coming week. Saturday will likely begin with freezing temperatures over all of SW AR, parts of NE TX and SE OK. Lows in these area will likely dip into the upper 20s to low 30s. I do expect temperatures in Shreveport to remain slightly above freezing, but I still recommend taking the necessary precautions to protect plants, pets and pipes through out the entire area. Look for plenty of sunshine once again Saturday, however temperatures will be even cooler than what we experienced today with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Another disturbance will move towards the Arklatex later in the weekend. Look for the clouds to increase late Saturday and Saturday night. We’ll see a slight chance for some showers Sunday. That chance will increase late in the day and especially Sunday night. Look for the cold rain to continue into Monday. A few models are hinting that some winter precip will be possible at the end of this event. As of right now, any accumulation is looking rather unlikely. Models indicate that much of the area can expect to see another inch of rain from late Sunday through early Tuesday.
Once this system moves out, expect plenty of sunshine for the rest of next week. Temperatures will stay well below normal with highs in the 40s and 50s. We could warm into the low 60s by next Friday. Overnight lows will mainly be in the 30s and 40s. Much of the area could dip into the 20s Tuesday night. So if you fail to see freezing temperatures tonight, you will have more chances next week.
Average high/low for today’s date: 70/47.
Have a great weekend! –Todd Warren
