Abbott agrees to debate Valdez in Texas Governor's race

AUSTIN, TX - Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott has agreed to take part in a statewide televised debate with Democratic challenger Lupe Valdez.

Abbott said he has accepted an invitation from Nexstar Media Group for a statewide debate with Valdez in Austin from 7-8 p.m. on Sept. 28.

“A statewide debate that allows voters to hear directly from candidates on what they believe is essential to the democratic process, and Governor Abbott looks forward to this opportunity to share his vision for the future of Texas,” said campaign spokesman Alejandro Treviño. “We look forward to our opponent accepting this invitation to discuss the critical issues on the minds of Texans, and we thank Nexstar Media Group for their generous offer to host this debate.”

So far Lupe Valdez has not said whether or not she will take part in the debate.

The location for the debate is yet to be determined
