“Mayor Tyler and co-host Mayor Walker have really rolled out the red carpet,” says John Gallagher, LMA Executive Director.
The city of Shreveport welcomes elected municipal leaders to the annual Louisiana Municipal Association conference.
“It’s an opportunity for us in Tallulah to network with other cities and find out how they are doing things. Take some of those best practices that we learn here and bring them back to Tallulah. And it just helps us to increase our moral and things that we are doing in the city,” says Yvonne Lewis, City of Tallulah Spokesperson.
But don’t worry, it’s not a paid vacation.
“Oh you are just going down there, you are using the taxpayers money just to go on vacation, it’s really not that. LMA makes sure that you sign in and are accountable to your constituents,” says Lewis.
Being the spokesperson for Tallulah, Yvonne Lewis is looking forward to the workshop on media relations.
“We also have our ethics training that we have to do. Every year it’s really important that we stay on that so that you aren’t doing anything. You could simply take a gift from someone and that could be an ethical violation,” says Lewis.
Once the three day conference ends, Lewis says she’ll take back all of the things she’s learned.
“The Mayor sits down and we talk with all of the department heads about the different break out sessions we went to, anything specific that could help one our employees, we share that information with them,” says Lewis.
This year’s conference has some special guests, Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and Secretary of State Tom Schedler.
Next year’s conference will be held in Lake Charles.
